2012 Mission Event: The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Us

Our annual mission weekend at Buckhorn Camp is fast approaching. Please mark your calendars for this event January 13-15. Seventy Larry McGuire – who also shared his ministry at last summer’s reunion – will offer guest ministry under the theme that comes from Luke 4 and Isaiah 61. We will also have a Youth Track for our second year for Junior and Senior High. Cost for the weekend is $85 for adults, $70 for youth. Joyful Noise Workshop

Please mark your calendars now for Saturday, June 2 when we will host here in southern California one of the five Joyful Noise Workshops that herald our church's new hymnal, due to come out in 2013. Hymnal Coordinator Lauren Holly and High Priest Quorum President and worship expert Jane Gardner will lead the workshop and familiarize us with the new hymnal's musical styles, worship planning techniques, theological content, and more. We are working out a location and will pass along information as soon as possible. For now, just reserve this date and stay tuned!

USA Conference

Doctrine and Covenants 164 provides opportunity for national conferences to participate in decision-making about issues related to moral behavior and relationships that cannot be addressed at World Conference because of starkly different cultural perspectives and national laws. The amendment to the bylaws approved at the 2010 World Conference limits national conferences to special conferences. Thus, the focus will be limited to items identified by the Council of Twelve, approved by the First Presidency, and announced to the church in advance.

Various USA mission centers submitted resolutions to the 2010 World Conference on two subjects: same-gender marriage and ordaining people involved in same-gender relationships. As a result, the USA Team of Apostles, in consultation with the Council of Twelve and the First Presidency, concluded these two issues need timely attention to allow the �restoring work of the gospel to move forward with all of its potential� (Doctrine and Covenants 164:7c) in the USA.
